Stock and Mutual Funds

Stock shares are an excellent way to give because you can fulfill your philanthropic goals in a number of ways.

1. Use the stock's fair market value as your charitable deduction, up to 30% of your adjusted gross income
2. Make gifts of appreciated securities
3. Leverage charitable gift annuities
4. Establish a charitable lead annuity trust
5. Use charitable remainder unitrusts

We recommend that you consult with your tax advisor and broker regarding the tax deductibility and timing of your gift.

How to Donate Securities

You can make a gift of securities to the Hertz Foundation using electronic transfer (via your broker) or through physical mail. Electronic transfer is the most secure and quickest delivery method.

Prior to transferring shares, please contact the Hertz Foundation’s development office by calling 925.373.1642 (ext. 3) to provide your name, company’s name, stock ticker symbol, and the number of shares being donated.  This helps ensure the correct crediting of the gift to you when the shares are received.
