Peter Doerschuk is professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University, where his research focuses on computational methods for cryo-electron microscopy and biological image analysis. Doerschuk earned both his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from MIT, completing his Ph.D. in electrical engineering there, with his fellowship beginning in 1977. His research develops mathematical algorithms for reconstructing three-dimensional structures of proteins and viruses from cryo-electron microscopy images—a technique recognized by the 2017 Nobel Prize in Chemistry—enabling researchers to visualize biomolecular machines at atomic resolution.
