Paul Choi, PhD

2003 HERTZ FELLOW

MAKING HISTORY

Paul Choi is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on the interaction between immune and tumor cells. More specifically, he is studying how natural killer cells attack abnormal cells, and how cancer cells succumb to or resist such attacks. Paul is interested in advancing the basic science necessary to develop immunotherapies or other treatments that are orthogonal to traditional pharmacology.

Paul’s thesis studied mechanisms of gene expression using sensitive, live-cell imaging of fluorescent reporters. At Harvard, his work elucidated novel molecular insights into genetic regulation using the quantitative accuracy of single-molecule techniques applied to proteins in their native cellular environment. Eventually, Paul hopes to develop an independent research program in academia.

When not in the laboratory, Paul enjoys ethnic cuisine, fitness experiments, and internet culture.
