Omar Saleh is professor of Materials at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where his research investigates the biophysics of DNA and other biomolecules using single-molecule techniques. Saleh earned his undergraduate degree from MIT before completing his Ph.D. in physics at Princeton University, where his fellowship began in 1999. His research uses optical tweezers and other force-measurement tools to probe the mechanical and thermodynamic properties of DNA, RNA, and protein molecules at the single-molecule level, revealing how biomolecular mechanics govern biological function.
