Jeremy Kubica is director of Engineering for the LINCC Frameworks Team at Carnegie Mellon University, leading software infrastructure development for large-scale astronomy surveys. Kubica earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell University before completing his Ph.D. in computer science at Carnegie Mellon University, where his fellowship began in 2001. His doctoral research focused on efficient algorithms for detecting and tracking asteroids in large astronomical datasets—work at the intersection of machine learning, combinatorial optimization, and observational astronomy. The LINCC Frameworks project builds the computational infrastructure for the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) and the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, which will generate unprecedented volumes of astronomical data.
