Daniel L. Ruderman is director of digital pathology and oncology biomarker development at Genentech, where his work combines computational biology and data science to advance cancer diagnostics. Ruderman earned his undergraduate and doctoral degrees at UC Berkeley, completing his dissertation on natural image ensembles and sensory signal processing — exploring the statistical structure of natural scenes and how the visual system might be optimized to represent them efficiently. After postdoctoral work, he moved into industry and eventually to Genentech, where he serves as director of digital pathology in oncology biomarker development, applying computational and imaging methods to accelerate cancer diagnostics.
