Dan M. Marom is a professor of applied physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem whose research on ultrafast optical signal processing has made him a leading figure in photonic switching and optical communications. Marom earned his undergraduate degree at Tel Aviv University and his doctorate in electrical engineering at the University of California, San Diego, where his dissertation examined femtosecond-rate optical signal processing with applications in ultrafast communications — harnessing the brief duration of ultrashort light pulses to perform switching operations at data rates far exceeding conventional electronics. He subsequently joined the Applied Physics Department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he is a professor and continues to work on photonic integrated circuits and optical switching networks.
