Curtis J. Randall is a principal and vice president for technology applications at SciComp Inc. who earned his doctorate at UC Davis/Livermore for research on the absorption of focused laser beams by nonspherical plasmas. Randall’s doctoral research on laser-plasma interactions has underpinned a long career applying scientific computing to engineering challenges. Randall received his Hertz Fellowship in 1976 and earned his doctorate in plasma physics at the UC Davis/Livermore program, where his dissertation examined the absorption of focused laser beams by a nonspherical plasma — computationally and analytically modeling how laser energy couples into asymmetric plasma targets relevant to inertial confinement fusion. He subsequently joined SciComp Inc., a scientific computing company, where he has served as principal and vice president for technology applications.
