Craig Jensen was a professor of mathematics at the University of New Orleans and a lecturer at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont.
Craig’s research interests included topology and algebra, as well as mathematics education. He published papers in the area of geometric group theory. Along with John Meier and Jon McCammond, Craig solved the Brownstein-Lee Conjecture about the cohomology of the symmetric automorphism group of a free group. This conjecture had been posed in 1991 and the solution by Jensen, McCammond, and Meier finally appeared in 2006.
His university training included a bachelor’s degree at Utah State University and a master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Wisconsin. As a Hertz Fellow, Criag obtained his PhD from Cornell University in 1998 under Karen Vogtmann. From 1998-2001 he was a Zassenhaus Assistant Professor (postdoctoral position) at The Ohio State University. From 2001-2015 he had a tenure track position at the University of New Orleans (UNO), and was an associate professor from 2007. At UNO, Craig Jensen participated in many mathematics education grants over several years involving professional development with local teachers. He cared about issues related to mathematics education, and believed it is very important to the success of our society.
