Andreas M. Glaeser is a professor emeritus of materials science and engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, where he spent his career investigating the thermodynamics and kinetics of grain boundary migration, sintering, and related phenomena in ceramic and metallic materials. Glaeser earned his doctorate in materials science from MIT in 1976, supported by a Hertz Fellowship, with a thesis on grain boundary migration in lithium fluoride — foundational experimental work on how crystallographic interfaces move in response to driving forces such as temperature and stress. He joined the Berkeley materials science faculty and built a research program examining microstructural evolution in polycrystalline materials, with implications for the processing and performance of ceramics and electronic materials.
