Shelley Anna is professor of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, where her research explores the physics and engineering of soft materials and microscale fluids. Anna earned both her undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Harvard University, completing her Ph.D. in engineering there, with her fellowship beginning in 1995. Her research has pioneered the use of microfluidic devices to generate and control droplets, bubbles, and capsules at microscale—techniques now broadly used in pharmaceutical encapsulation, materials synthesis, and cell biology. She has also contributed to understanding the rheology of complex fluids and interfacial phenomena.
