Ray Sidney was the second engineer hired at Google. From his LinkedIn profile entry for that job: “Worked on many interesting projects!”
Prior to his time at Google, Ray worked at D. E. Shaw and RSA Labs.
In modern times, Ray’s interests include complexity theory, energy, the environment, Norway, and a variety of slippery sports, including most things on snow or ice. Ray serves on the Boards of Directors of the Hertz Foundation, the YP Math Foundation, and Girls’ Angle, and he has close ties to the XPRIZE Foundation.
Ray holds an AB from Harvard and a PhD from MIT, both in mathematics. His PhD work was in the field of cryptography and was supervised by Silvio Micali while Ray was supported with a Hertz Fellowship. Ray also holds an MBA from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
