2008 HERTZ FELLOW

Pediatric Urologist, Seattle Children's and Assistant Professor, University of Washington

MAKING HISTORY

May Chandru is a Pediatric Urologist at Seattle Children’s and an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington.

Maya was previously a pediatric urology fellow with the Division of Urology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She completed her Residency in Urology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).

Maya’s graduate studies were completed at the Medical Scientist Training Program at UCSF. Her research focused on the fundamental mechanisms that allow us to consolidate complex experiences into retrievable blocks of information. She integrated molecular, cellular and neural network-level approaches to dissect the physical processes that underlie learning and memory. After her first two years of medical school, she worked in biophysics with Dr. Steven Finkbeiner’s group at the Gladstone Institute for Neurological Disease.

She spent her junior year of undergraduate at Cambridge in the Cavendish Labs and graduated from MIT in 2003 with bachelor’s degrees in physics and biology and a minor in music composition.
