A co-founder of Type One Energy, Dr. John Canik now serves as the company’s Chief Science and Engineering Officer.
He has over twenty years of high-impact fusion energy research experience, and has provided technical leadership of extensive science and engineering teams. Before joining Type One Energy, he dedicated 16 years to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), initially joining as a Eugene P. Wigner Fellow. During his career at the Lab, he managed progressively significant portions of ORNL’s fusion program, including service as the main liaison with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fusion Energy Sciences. He has co-authored over 140 fusion technical papers, with many important contributions on stellarators.
Dr. Canik holds an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, along with a B.A. in Physics and Computer Science from New York University.
