Support the Hertz Foundation
Ways to Give
Every donation to the Hertz Foundation, regardless of size, directly fuels our innovative community of Hertz Fellows, accelerating solutions to our most pressing challenges. We offer a range of giving opportunities to make it easy and convenient for you to make your donation. If you have questions or want to discuss special circumstances surrounding your gift, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Donating to the Hertz Foundation through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) offers excellent financial flexibility and tax advantages. You can contribute a variety of assets, including appreciated stocks and mutual funds, to your DAF and receive an immediate tax deduction in the year of your contribution, even if you recommend grants to the Hertz Foundation later. This allows you to simplify your charitable giving by consolidating your donations and supporting the Hertz Foundation’s mission over time.
Donating appreciated stocks or mutual funds to the Hertz Foundation offers a compelling way to support cutting-edge scientific research while maximizing your own financial benefits. You can avoid paying capital gains taxes on the appreciated value of the securities, which can be substantial if you’ve held them for a long time. Simultaneously, you’ll receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the gift, potentially lowering your taxable income. This strategic approach allows you to make a more impactful contribution to the foundation’s mission.
Gifts of stock can be made using electronic transfer through your broker (the most secure and quickest delivery method), or through physical mail. Prior to transferring shares, please contact the Hertz Foundation’s development office by calling 925.373.1642 (ext. 3) to provide your name, company’s name, stock ticker symbol, and the number of shares being donated. This helps ensure the correct crediting of the gift to you when the shares are received.
