Soyoun (Soy) Choi aspires to develop proprioceptive robotic hands to advance dexterous manipulation and human-robot interaction.

Choi studies at Harvard University, majoring in mechanical engineering with a minor in global health and health policy. At Harvard, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Choi will pursue her doctorate in mechanical engineering at Stanford University.

As an undergraduate, Choi has conducted bio-inspired robotics research in the Harvard Microrobotics Lab under Professor Robert Wood. She has worked on capacitive tactile sensors for robotic grippers and Project CETI, a robotic system for decoding sperm whale communication. Choi was also a research assistant in the Rowland Institute at Harvard where she worked on designing floating-mirror infrastructure to support solar-powered reactors for ocean de-acidification and carbon dioxide capture.

Outside of research, Choi is an innovator and entrepreneur. She is the co-founder of Clozet, an AI-driven fashion commerce platform, and BlueBrown Partners, a venture capital fund supporting young engineering founders.

Choi was editor-in-chief of the Harvard Undergraduate Research Village Abstract Book and served as president of the Harvard University Engineering Society, Harvard Society of Women Engineers, and Harvard DEV. Passionate about educational equity, she founded STEAM Engine and K-STEM For All Inc., nonprofits focused on increasing access to hands-on science and robotics education.

Originally from Melbourne, Florida, Choi is an avid golfer and surfer. She also enjoys playing the violin and viola and was a member of the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra.
