Joshua Mueller, PhD

MAKING HISTORY

Joshua Mueller’s primary interest is the nexus of energy, environmental, and global security. As a former naval officer, he has served as a nuclear naval engineer, a political science instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy, and as the speechwriter to a vice admiral. His current research focuses on the value of energy storage systems for use with renewable electricity generation resources. His work specializes in conceptual developments in modeling diverse storage technologies to enable technology evaluation and to provide guidance to researchers and policy makers that promote storage adoption.

Joshua graduated from the Naval Academy in 2004 with a BS in physics and a French minor. He attended the University of Oxford on the Ambassador William H.G. FitzGerald Scholarship. While at Oxford, he earned a BA in philosophy, politics, and economics and was the graduate student body president for Brasenose College. In 2015, he graduated with an SM from the Technology and Policy Program at MIT. Currently, Josh is in his third year of doctoral studies in the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society at MIT.
