Jocelyn Keene is a Retired Staff Member and Astronomer at the California Institute of Technology, where she contributed to millimeter-wave and submillimeter-wave astronomy throughout her career. Keene earned her undergraduate degree before completing her Ph.D. in astronomy and astrophysics at the University of Chicago, where her fellowship began in 1977. She spent most of her career at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory and the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory, developing instrumentation and conducting observations at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths—spectral windows that probe cold molecular gas in the interstellar medium and the atmospheres of planets.
