MAKING HISTORY

Carl J. Delo is department chair of engineering at SUNY Maritime College, where he has spent his career studying turbulent boundary layers and leading the engineering program. Delo earned his undergraduate degree at Cooper Union and his doctorate in mechanical and aeronautical engineering at Princeton University, where his dissertation presented a volumetric analysis of a low Reynolds number turbulent boundary layer — experimental work using three-dimensional flow measurement techniques to characterize how turbulence evolves near a solid wall. He has since built a faculty career at SUNY Maritime College, where he serves as chair of the engineering department.
