Brendan M. Gaffey is a senior partner at McKinsey & Company and a senior expert on wireless technology and the broader technology, media, and telecommunications sector, having built a 25-year career there after completing a doctorate in electrical engineering. Gaffey earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Notre Dame and his doctorate in electrical engineering from Yale University in 2000, where his dissertation addressed key materials synthesis and device processing challenges in gallium nitride field-effect transistors — work at the frontier of wide-bandgap semiconductor technology. He joined McKinsey directly after graduate school and has risen to senior partner, co-leading the firm’s global Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice and serving as the North American TMT practice leader. His client work has spanned mobile operators, hyper-growth startups, and large-scale M&A transactions in the telecom sector. He also sits on a McKinsey committee deploying more than $500 million in investment funds to accelerate decarbonization.
