Thirty Hertz Fellows and guests gathered in New York City on October 14, 2008 at a reception event hosted by the Foundation and Hertz Director and Fellow 1978, Michael Ansour, also Managing Partner of March Partners, LLC. Special guest, Ted Wong MD, Managing Partner, Chief Investment Officer at Constellar Capital LLC was a generous underwriter of the evening. Opening remarks were by Hertz Foundation President, John Holzrichter. Closing remarks were by Hertz Director and Fellow 1972, and Princeton Professor, Richard Miles.

Keynote speaker J.Doyne Farmer, Hertz Fellow 1981, spoke to the question, “What can Physicists add to our understanding of the markets?” Doyne is a McKinsey Professor at the Santa Fe Institute. He is one of the pioneers of “chaos theory” and a principal force behind time series-based directional forecasting methods for use in an automatic trading of financial institutions. He also co-founded and is former co-president of the Prediction Company.
