The Fannie and John Hertz Foundation's mission is to focus on supporting graduate students in the applied physical, biological, and engineering sciences for the purpose of solving difficult, real-world problems. Harold Newman has long been an active supporter of the Hertz Foundation, serving both as a Board Member and as a generous donor. Harold Newman has generously established an endowment to allow the Foundation to support entrepreneurial efforts by Fellows.
The Newman Entrepreneurial Initiative Fund provides individual investments of up to $25,000 with a particular emphasis on collaborative activities amongst Fellows. Investments by the Newman Gift are intended to be a one-time funding event, but in extraordinary cases continuation investments will be considered. In the spirit of the Hertz Foundation, this support comes with no strings, but with the expectation that as these ventures grow and develop, the Hertz Foundation can share in their economic success.
Any Hertz Fellow in good standing with the Foundation may propose a project for funding. Preference will be given to Fellows in school or the early years of their careers.
